Whiskey Row is where many of Kentucky’s most famous distillers had offices and warehouses.

Whiskey Row is a stretch of buildings on W. Main Street that has served as an integral part of Louisville’s business community since 1852. This collection of Revivalist and Chicago School-style buildings with cast iron storefronts once served a central role in Louisville’s bourbon industry. Numerous distilleries would transport whiskey barrels to the Louisville market for sale by train or wagon. They would later house other historic businesses including Belknap Hardware & Manufacturing and the United Furniture Company.

The development and Revitalization of 111 whiskey Row is the result of a commonly shared vision and commitment to historic preservation. The ownership and design team have enabled this historic property to reestablish its rightful place in the fabric of the city of Louisville.

111 Whiskey Row
Before, during and after the fire and restoration.

As construction began, a major fire occurred causing the rebuilding process to change significantly. The project ownership group was committed to salvaging the project as a model of redevelopment, and as a civic gesture to emphasize the importance of these buildings within our urban fabric.

A new steel frame was inserted into the remaining load-bearing masonry structure, while maintaining eligibility for tax credit consideration. Significant historical features of the building, consisting of cast iron façade elements, masonry party walls and wood floor joists were carefully salvaged for reuse in the new building. The mix of restaurant and retail spaces within the project continue the significant investment being made in the area.
