Preserving Tradition, Elevating Performance: Modernizing EKU’s Iconic Coliseum for Future Generations
The design looks to preserve and celebrate the iconic elements of the building while also modernizing and improving the day to day functioning of the facility. The distinct arched elevation and the view to it from the By-Pass will be maintained and enhanced. The impressive wood framed existing roof structure of the arena bowl will be further expressed but updated with amenities of a current athletic and performance venue. Also the mechanical and electrical systems throughout the facility will be upgraded and modernized to create a more efficient sustainable facility.
It is a vital part of the fabric of the University and Richmond. Not only to the student athletes but also the full student body. It is often new students first introduction to the University at orientation and where they depart at commencement. We are working to be good stewards of the building and the University’s investment and position the Coliseum to serve the University well into the future.
